Since you are interested there are some controversial documents that suggests that the people of Palmares had themselves slaves!

The quilombo of Palmares had the same hierarchic as african tribes and this meant that prisoners from war would be punished by working in the land.

These slaves did had more rights than the portuguese slaves, though.

The times were so different back then that they did fight against slavery but they had slaves themselves. This I find mind blowing and help me understand a bit of how people thought back then.
