Why are people scared of delving deep unto themselves?

People will be afraid to venture further into themselves if they are afraid of what they will find. In self-discovery, there are parts of the self that you don’t like and would prefer to ignore and not deal with it.

Maybe you didn’t like a physical or personality feature in yourself growing up and you trained yourself to make this feature more discreet, almost invisible. Imagine that you did such a great job hiding your vulnerabilities from other people that you successfully hid them even from yourself.

The problem starts when we forget that we are hiding things from ourselves, and this happens all the time.

Like the Jungian concept of the shadow, be aware of that part of yourself that you intentionally (or not) hide from others, because if you forget where you hid it, you may end up stumbling upon monstrous parts of yourself that you weren’t even aware were even there, to begin with.
