This is exactly what is killing Reddit.
Reddit has great potential to promote products. Their huge user base will become obsessed in some things and completely boycott others.
Big companies realized that.
Now most of the front-page content is made by less than 50 users. These user’s sell their influence (Karma) to big companies who want to promote their brand under the radar.
As we saw with the Nissan example new accounts don’t work so now there are teams of professional accounts who work on getting Karma (mostly by reposting last semester’s successful original contents) and flood reddit with silly unimportant and fake content just so they can sponsor their posts in the future for a company like Nissan.
